Solar

We harness the suns rays with over 400 rooftop solar panels at the cider mill, saving 60 tonnes of CO2. We use the solar energy to power our production lines where we bottle, keg and can our range of ciders.

Electricity

For over 10 years we've been sourcing any additional electricity for the cider mill from renewable sources and with the continuing investment in our own solar energy, this will reduce further.
Packaging

Packaging

All our plastic used has at least 30% recycled content and we recycle all our production plastics. In 2023 we removed 72 tonnes of cardboard from the system and replaced our cardboard trays with lighter pads.

WATER

To clean apples, pears, bottles, vats and production lines uses a huge amount of water. We've reduced this volume by 17%. We have a natural spring and a bore hole at the cider mill to extract water. To clean and return it to the orchards and brook, we have a wastewater treatment system and wetlands.

Technology

Investing in new technologies supports our sustainability strategy such as changing our labelling machines so that 95% of our bottled products now have paper labels. We've also changed how we use air compressors, used in our production methods, changing to variable speed for an effective energy saving.

Orchards

Over 308 acres of beautiful, family-owned orchards are farmed & harvested by Westons, creating a natural haven for wildlife including 43 acres of Soil Association certified organic. As a part of a healthy eco-system we retain any standing dead wood as it's a very valuable home for bats, birds, invertebrates and funghi.

Pollinators

We've created flower rich field margins around the orchards to provide important habitat sites for bees, butterflies and birds and we manage our hedgerows to increase the availability of blossom and provision of food for all pollinators. Beehives are kept in our orchards to ensure effective pollination.

Wetlands

The wetlands area developed in the 1980s and from small beginnings and we now have an extensive area of 9 ponds to final-filtrate our waste production water and create a habitat for nature. Dragonflies, damselflies and over 25 different birds call this area home along with small mammals, frogs, toads & newts.

Herefordshire Wildlife Trust

We are Investors in Wildlife with the Herefordshire Wildlife Trust, working together to protect and nurture our beautiful surroundings including planting native hedges to support nature, such as Hawthorn and hazel and hosting their charity information stand at the Cider Mill.

Community Support

Our 50 Mile project is our community support, offered within our apple growing region to help local organisations and charities. Our aim is to support over 145 events in 2025.
