Herefordshire based cider and perry makers, Westons Cider, has once again scooped a double award at the International Cider and Perry awards. The competition held on Wednesday 12th May at the Cider Museum in Hereford, was judged by industry stalwarts John Thatcher of Thatchers Cider, James Crowden, Author & Poet and Nicholas Bulmer, Master Distiller.

Producers from across the country and overseas battled it out in seven different categories at the annual competition.  Westons entries, both traditionally produced from locally sourced cider apples and perry pears, were entered into the “Dry Cider” and “Perry” categories.  Receiving excellent comments by the panel of judges both entries were highly commended and awarded first prize in their categories.

Roger Jackson, commercial director at Westons stated “We are delighted to have achieved a double win at this year’s cider and perry competition.  These awards are a true testament to our dedicated staff at Westons and our passion for creating quality products.”

Westons Stowford Press LA (Low Alcohol cider) has also received high praise, this time from Nordic newspaper Helsingin Sanomat, the largest newspaper in Finland.  In the newspapers low and non alcoholic Cider test, Stowford Press LA came out on top, being considered by the judges as “the only cider that truly represents the word cider. LA has ‘the soul of the cider and taste of the real apple’. “

These awards follow previous successes which saw, for example, Westons awarded Highly Commended in the Great British Pub Suppliers Awards 2009
