Family and staff at H Weston & Sons Ltd are celebrating this week after winning the Tony Sargeant Memorial Cup from the Hereford Cattle Breeders Association for their pedigree herd of Hereford Cattle.

The prestigious award, for the Class 1, Best Small Herd of Hereford Cattle, a competition open to breeders throughout the UK, was presented to Helen Thomas, Managing Director, Henry Weston, Director and Tom Manns, Farmer on 25th July.

The judge, Donald Robbie, is a breeder of Poll Herefords in New Zealand and the cup was presented to Westons by his wife Marlene at John and Sue Walkers Farm in Tedney, Clifton-on-Teme.

Helen Thomas said: "We are absolutely delighted to have won this award.  When my great grandfather came here in 1880, he was a tenant farmer and for many years the family bred Hereford Cattle.  In 2006 we decided to reintroduce them and we now have 14 breeding cows.  We really enjoyed selecting our breeding stock and are currently developing the herd.  We have already won three seconds at the Three Counties Show and we hope to attend more shows next year."
